Personal:

I have been married for almost 20 years.... Dave is the only man that I think that was placed specifically on this earth to tolerate my crazy ways.

I have 2 boys - ages 9 yrs. and 18 yrs. old (senior in high schoold and known on this blog as "Ironman"- they are fabulous kids - I am very blessed!!!

I am an RN and have been for around 12 years.

I lift weights regularly and work abs 2-3 days a week.  I enjoy the beach, like to sing, and love to run!!!

Quit smoking about 4 years ago and couldn't run 1/4 way around a track when I began... started with elliptical and then got into running more seriously.  Cranked up the mileage and intensity when I began training for my first 1/2 marathon.  The rest is history.... or history in the making!?

Who in their right mind would deliberately set their alarm for 5am on a sunday to go run 15 miles knowing that the last 4 will probably push them to the complete edge??  ME!! Chat with you all in a few hours.  Hoping for a good pace.  Slept like crap....

Hey all - well I did it... wasn't pleasant.  First 4 miles I ran too fast around a 8:30 pace. Next 4 miles felt better and I slowed it up a bit.  At mile 8, I ate a bug that sent me into a choking fit through mile 9.  Mile 10- I started feeling the fatigue in my legs.  The last three miles I had to keep stopping and stretching.  Felt like I had no gusto left. Time - 2hours, 25 minutes, 59 seconds.  It was slow - but it's done.  Between lack of sleep, and tough speed work this week....not a bad run considering.

Average pace 8:38 per mile- time 25:53 - Not bad on sore legs.

Run was a bit challenging but I enjoyed it.  Quite a few people walking this morning, and we had to play dodgums to avoid collisions!!  Of course at times, you really need to watch where you step- people walk their dogs along there and leave little poop gifts along the way!!!  First 1.5 miles we ran at around 8-8:20 mins per mile.  We slowed down for the second 1.5 miles.  However, I couldn't resist a 6:40 pace for 0.25 miles, and shot down the malecon alone at the end.... It just felt fun.  I was trying to egg her on to run with me, but she was spent - bless her heart!!  My friend did a great job today.  She is a tough cookie and an amazing person.  She said she enjoyed running along the ocean like that.  It truly is quite beautiful!!!  I usually run alone.  It was nice to have her there with me.

Another night of bad sleep.  Sore tight quads woke me up a few times.  Wide awake at 1am doing laundry.... crazy.  Eh?  I have yet to figure out why my legs feel that way for hours after long or fast runs.

Well- what a morning.  Finally had a good night's sleep... hadn't been sleeping well since last Friday night.  Probably could have slept another 3 hours this morning if it weren't for that darn alarm clock waking me and telling me to get my butt moving.  First 5 miles felt ok.  Still a bit sore from sunday I think.  Fatigue in my legs started around mile 6 and I pushed myself the last 3 just to finish the mileage.  I just don't know when this is going to get any easier.  Yeah - I am beating myself up a bit.  Time 1:45:52 which is right around where I anticipated I would be.  Although this was supposed to be more of an easy run, my effort really felt to be more than that and I had a few breathers along the way.  However, I am used to doing these longer runs early in the AM when it is in the 60's and not in 80 degree temps.  I had my head in this run the whole time- thinking constantly about my pace, my leg fatigue and of course... watching for dog poop!!  I couldn't get myself in the zone and let the miles just blur by like when I'm feeling good.  Starting to wonder if I may be doing too much and overtraining a bit.  I haven't felt at 100% on a run since about 2 weeks ago.  Thinking that maybe, I should consider backing off on these longer runs and dispersing the mileage more evenly through the week?  Any advice would be much appreciated!!!  I am eating well, however I am down 4 pounds since Christmas.  I do consider that a good thing...as long as it isn't valuable muscle.  Time for a rest....

OK- Yesterdays' 10 miler beat me up a bit.  Didn't think that I was going to do anything today other than weights and abs at the gym but...once I got on the treadmill and took a little walk, I felt better and then increased speed- cranked out 8 miles. I hopped off and proceeded over to the stair-master for a 18 minute climb.  Insanity... my husband is convinced that I have lost my mind.  I also question myself!!  But it is done.  Running on the treadmill seems so much easier and kinder to my body.  I do not think that I could have faired so well on the road this morning.  My knees were feeling it at first, but once I ran for about 15 mins, all aches seemed to disappear. Was hoping to hit 45 miles this week, we will see how it goes.

Treadmill run, no incline- upset stomach for the first 3 miles.  Felt pretty good after that and struggled a bit with fatigue the last mile when I picked up the speed.    Was hoping to rest today, but that darn 45 mile goal for the week got me out the door and to the gym.  Not sure what I will be doing on Sunday for my long run, but I don't think it will be more than 13.2 miles.... I hope that I will feel more spry by then!!  I do have to say, the past few nights, I have slept so great and I do feel a lot better!!!

Just a short scoot this morning to loosen up the legs and hit that 45 mile goal this week.  Rest now until Sunday's long run.
