Personal:

I have been married for almost 20 years.... Dave is the only man that I think that was placed specifically on this earth to tolerate my crazy ways.

I have 2 boys - ages 9 yrs. and 18 yrs. old (senior in high schoold and known on this blog as "Ironman"- they are fabulous kids - I am very blessed!!!

I am an RN and have been for around 12 years.

I lift weights regularly and work abs 2-3 days a week.  I enjoy the beach, like to sing, and love to run!!!

Quit smoking about 4 years ago and couldn't run 1/4 way around a track when I began... started with elliptical and then got into running more seriously.  Cranked up the mileage and intensity when I began training for my first 1/2 marathon.  The rest is history.... or history in the making!?

Nice and easy 3 mile recovery jog... was enjoyable and felt no pressure from myself.  Need to have it like this once in a while...this type of run keeps me sane. Feeling like I may be getting a little bit of runner's knee on the left again.  Time to start re-working that leg solo with leg extensions.  I favor my right leg a lot since a left ankle sprain many years ago.  It throws off how I run and I think it plays a big part in why my left leg is weaker than my right.  Working the left leg solo seems to really help balance things out for me.

Miserable 8 miles.  My head was in the run the whole time and I just couldn't seem to get into the zone.  Tomorrow's run will have to be on the treadmill.  The road is beating me up.  I think I will make a massage appointment for tomorrow.  That always makes me feel refreshed.

Nice and easy slow run today.... was very tired and legs felt like weights, but I wanted that 48 mile marker this week, so it is done.  Tomorrow?  NO running for me... my day off.  Next week, hoping to feel more energetic.

Yay!  It's done.  Felt great up to mile 11 and then was getting pretty tired by that point.  Gotta say though, I had enough in me to go another 3 miles for sure.  Took the first 10 miles slow and eased into a faster pace for the last 6.  I wanted today to be more about the time on my feet and the mileage than speed.  Time 2:23:49 with an average pace of 8:59.  Knees are whining a bit now, but felt ok during the run.... time for a few beers, a burger and the super bowl!!!

Nice slow recovery jog.  My knees were complaining a bit today for the first 2 miles then they were fine after I was warmed up.  Hoping I will feel up to a tempo run tomorrow.  I feel the need for speed!!! LOL!!!

My workout today was a bit confusing even for me....LOL.... went from a running intervals to a 30 minute tempo run at about 8:35/minute pace for 30 minutes.  Could have run that tempo faster, but frankly I am a bit tired today...so I took it easy.  Took a few walk breaks with doing the intervals- my heart was pumping big time!! Glad I got some speed work in though.  Time to rest!!!

UGH... just wasn't in the mood today to run but went anyway.  8 miles total at average pace of 8:50 min/mile.  Glad that's over.  My legs aren't recovered from yesterday's run for sure!!!

Right about now I am wondering how in the world I ran over 50 miles last week!!?  I really need to get in another 3-5 miles today...think I will go do that at the gym on the treadmill and give my body a little break from the pavement.  My feet are throbbing.  I really think it's time for some new running shoes.  My son stepped on my left great toe last night and it hurts like you wouldn't believe!!  I hadn't realized it, but that toe nail is on it's way to being a casualty.  This will be my fourth loss since September.  Anyone else have this problem?   I only woke up once last night briefly... I must have really needed the rest for me to sleep 10 hours!!!  I will edit this blog after I get back from the gym...we'll see what my body will let me do. OK - 3.25 on the treadmill.  PHEW!!!

UGH...glad that's over... actually enjoyed the last 3 miles...the first 3 were a bit rough - legs felt heavy like I had 10lb. weights attached to them.  Once I hit mile 3 started to feel much better.... rest till sunday.  Did my weight routine at the gym along with abs today... gonna kick back and have a beer or two later with friends... life is good!!!

Well- woke up this morning early and had planned to do at least 17 miles today, however just wasn't in the mood.  Had GI issues the whole time during my run and was nervous that there wouldn't be a restroom close by for me to use if duty called.  The run was really easy and hardly felt like I was even breathing once I got into the groove around mile 3.  Time was 56:15... My boys don't have school the next 2 days here, so I will be able to get an early start and try for the long run tomorrow.

So ya' wanna know about my 18 mile run?  OUCHIE!! The first 13.2 miles in 1:54:52 and ran to "Sexy Love" over and over again which helped pace me... I am tired and to say in the least - it was a tough run.  An exhausting first 13.2 and then after that I just did what I could.  I was sick to my stomach, I had low blood sugar at mile 15 with the shakes and downed a whole gatoraide.  At mile 17 - although I only had one mile to go, I just stood there looking at the pavement wondering how in the world people do this...  Not a good place for anyone and not for me. Started talking to myself outload at mile 12... you don't wanna know what I said to myself at mile 17... can't repeat it here.... so I hear it get's easier in time?!

First mile and 3/4 outside then suddenly down-pour!!  Had to take off my shoes, tuck them under my shirt, and run a quarter mile back to the condo in the rain barefoot.... no fun.  Decided I'd go hit up the treadmill for my run.... Did 30 mins. at 7.45 MPH, 5 mins. at 7.82 MPH and the rest of the time ranged between 10.4-11km/hr, not including my warmup for 5 minutes.  Completed the workout with my weight and abs routine.  Felt really good running in my new shoes - got some nice NIKE air Vapor Quick 2's - selection in Mexico is quite limited, but after my run today, these made me feel like I had new legs!!!

OUCH!!!  Glad that's over.  Couldn't wear my new running shoes outside today.... still too mucky and wet.  Unusual weather this time of year for Mazatlan.... rain isn't something that is common until July and August.  I like rain- don't get me wrong - I just don't like it to rain when I run!!

Had a very bad experience in the rain back in September here.... a monsoon storm came in early in the morning while I was running the malecon by the ocean.  Winds picked up, thunder and lightening, down-pour and I was 4 miles from my car!  Needless to say, I ran those last 4 miles as fast as I could - it was really scary!!  At times I was in up to 6 inches of water.... hence why I don't like getting cought in the rain in Mazatlan!!!  You just never know how bad it will get, but one thing is for sure - plan on a flood!!!!

Had a rough run and I am having trouble pacing.... I'm all over the place with it!!  I gotta just laugh because I was really getting frustrated and essentially I confused myself!!!!  One minute I'd be at a 9:16 pace, next running 7:20.  Just a weird day.  Ran the malecon along the ocean this morning and completed 6 miles there.  Had groceries in the back of the car, so decided to head home and put them away.  Then ran to my gym and did my weight routine and abs routine.  Ran home, and completed another mile 1 1/2 miles there just to make it an even 3 miles.  Glad tomorrow is my rest day.  I kicked my own rear this week!!!  Stuck my legs in the pool afterwards... so cold but felt great!!

REST DAY

Tough time sleeping last night.  Got too much sun yesterday at the beach and my skin felt like razor blades everytime I rolled over in bed last night.  Tossed and turned from 1am on essentially.  Ate Pizza last night for dinner.  Should have known better... it usually doesn't agree with me.  Got a late start on my run this morning because of that.  Time 2:20:01.  Just happy that I completed it.  My legs are NOT recovered from Friday.  Felt fatigue set in around mile 8 so I knew this was gonna be a tough one.  Looking forward to sticking my legs in that chilly ocean water and eating some chicken fingers. :-)

Ran the first 2 miles at 8:11 pace....made my self slow down to 9 and above for the rest of the run.  I need to learn to take it easy on days that are supposed to be easy!!!

Did 2 mile warm up then 6 x 0.41 mile repeats with pace ranging from 6:16-7:00.  Took up to 2-3 minutes for recovery when I really needed it (like after the 6:16 - when I felt just so beat up).  Finished off the workout with a run pacing average 8:45 min/mile.  I am so tired!!!  Time to rest. Didn't sleep that great last night.  Lately, I just don't feel like I am well rested or recovering as quickly as I would like.  I may need to rethink some of what I am doing, but I am starting to see the results, so I must be doing something right?!  Hey by the way - I keep trying to add new "favorite" blogs to my list, but for some reason it doesn't let me!!  Anyone know why?

I am a hurting unit today after yesterdays' workout.  So I ran nice and slow today, but got the mileage done that I wanted.  Average pace 9:26.  I could feel my lungs burning a bit still from yesterdays' workout when I took deep breaths.  My quads ached - started to feel a bit better after mile 4.  Completed the first 6 miles around the marina then ran to the gym and did my weight routine.  Ran back to the condo to complete the mileage.  Just ate a meatball sub... now what else can I eat??  Starving!!!

UGH!!!  Did a 3 mile warm up then started in on some intervals/tempo run for a total of 5 miles.  Ran downtown today towards the El Cid Hotel.  Very busy area....felt like I was leaping curbs, dodging tourists, watching for cars and trying not to get killed by traffic.  Made the run interesting though.  I think this area would be better to run on a Sunday morning.  At times I was able to just run and at times I would have to stop to avoid something coming or in my way.  Average pace for this run today was 8:18.  I am exhausted from it, but liked it at the same time.  Finished this rear kicker with a 1 mile cool down.

A lot to do this morning with paperwork and bills needing to be taken care of so I got a late start on my run.  I had meant to hit the gym too, but no time.  Finally got out the door at noon time to run.  So warm running mid-day!!  Ran the Marina loop.  Had set out for 3 miles, felt ok - so continued on.  Average pace 8:43.  I have to be at my other son's school by 2pm to set up for his science presentation tomorrow for the science fair, so I will have to go hit the gym tonight for my weight routine.  My oldest son has been home sick the past 2 days from school.  The kid eats me out of house and home when he's here!!!

Enjoying my rest day... spent the morning with my 6 year old at his school science fair.  Had a little excitement here in Mazatlan over the Tsunami warnings.... no worries here.  All is well in Mazatlan.  I have family in Hawaii on vacation, so I am a bit concerned about them at the moment.  They had plenty of warning and were evacuated.  I hope all is ok.

Got up this morning and I really wondered if I was going to be able to pull off this distance today.  I've been a bit tired the past 2 days and not feeling that great.  Once I got going, I felt really good and decided today I would try to crank and check out what I could do....the first 13.1 miles I ran in 1:51:45 with average pace of 8:32 per mile - I am really pleased with this time!!!  The next 5.1 miles were full of fatigue - had to stop a few times to stretch- my hamstrings which kept getting tight and cramping- average pace of 9:10 per mile.  I probably could have fueled a little better during the run.  Looking forward to a few beers and maybe some BBQ later!!!
