Personal:

I have been married for almost 20 years.... Dave is the only man that I think that was placed specifically on this earth to tolerate my crazy ways.

I have 2 boys - ages 9 yrs. and 18 yrs. old (senior in high schoold and known on this blog as "Ironman"- they are fabulous kids - I am very blessed!!!

I am an RN and have been for around 12 years.

I lift weights regularly and work abs 2-3 days a week.  I enjoy the beach, like to sing, and love to run!!!

Quit smoking about 4 years ago and couldn't run 1/4 way around a track when I began... started with elliptical and then got into running more seriously.  Cranked up the mileage and intensity when I began training for my first 1/2 marathon.  The rest is history.... or history in the making!?

Bienvenidos al blog. We have a couple of people from Mexico on the blog. Buena suerte!

Welcome to the blog! I completely believe you can drop your times that much in a year! I dropped about 20 minutes of my marathon in a year, and then another 16 the next year. Anything is possible with some sweat. GOOD LUCK to you!!!

Welcome / Bienvenida.

I'm from Mexico too, but from Guadalajara. My first marathon was the one in Mazatlan just last December. Following the great advise from people here, I'm sure you can realize any time you set your mind to.

Animo y buena suerte...tu pregunta lo que necesites saber, siempre habra alguien que con gusto te contestara.

Hello everyone - as you see I am new here and thanks for the welcome! I am from Arizona and FYI don't speak any spanish! LOL!! I am here in Mazatlan to experience the culture and give my boys the gift of a second language. I have plenty of time on my hands to train...so I am excited to see how I can progress over time here. Eric- you and I both ran the Pacifico (except I did the half).... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

What part of Arizona did you come from?

From Marathon Dreamer on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 18:48:07 from 200.52.168.1

Hi Burt - I am originally from MA but relocated to AZ about 9 yrs ago. I lived mainly in the Gilbert area. This past August, I relocated here to Mazatlan. At that point, is when I became more serious about running. I am not sure if I will be staying here, but I would like too!!

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 18:58:20 from 71.219.89.82

Did your job move you there or did you just take off to experience something new?

From Burt on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 19:14:51 from 206.19.214.144

I've lived in the valley (Mesa, Tempe, Queen Creek) since 1996. I currently live in QC. I grew up in Kingman.

We just had another girl that used to live in Gilbert (now Utah) join recently. Her name is Marathon Missy. So we have Marathon Missy and Marathon Dreamer both formerly of Gilbert.

As far as advice, I'm not the expert, but most will say build up your base slowly, so you don't injure yourself. Blog founder Sasha will tell you to run 6 days a week without fail. Eat healthy and get plenty of sleep. Run as much as you can to where you think you'd be able to do the same amount of running the next day without being overly tired or hurt.

My Mom lives in QC as well in Morning Sun Farms. We moved to Mazatlan to experience something new and in hopes of starting a real estate company here. Slow going on that though. My boys love it here especially my 15 yr. old that is addicted to surfing!! As far as running advice goes, I tend to need 1-2 days off a week. My legs get really tired and fatigued especially after long runs and tough speed workouts. I have cut back on lifting weights with my legs because I found it to take too much out of me to do both. It was killing my runs. Thanks for the advice.... it is a gradual process. Most people in my life think I'm a maniac and a bit insane to run as much as I do right now. It will be interesting to see how they react when I hit the 100 mile a week mark at some point!! LOL!!!

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 13:38:06 from 71.219.89.82

I found that when I am deep in to a training session (not just winter maintenace or the like) I have to really cut back on lifting weights with the lower part of the body. My legs would get too tired!!! i always take 1 day off entirely and have at least 2 super easy running days. It is good to give the legs a rest.

Looking forward to seeing you hit 100 miles a week! I think I have made it into the 80's 3 times, but that is as high as I have gone. I am a wimp, I start to fall apart!

Good luck with the rel estate company and have fun at the beach!
