Master's Woman's Bikini contest... yes... I may just do this in the coming year if I can manage to give up beer long enough to cut!

Help to inspire others to get fit and be consistent in their training.....Continue to love running and stay injury free while I rack up the miles....

Personal:

I have been married for almost 20 years.... Dave is the only man that I think that was placed specifically on this earth to tolerate my crazy ways.

I have 2 boys - ages 9 yrs. and 18 yrs. old (senior in high schoold and known on this blog as "Ironman"- they are fabulous kids - I am very blessed!!!

I am an RN and have been for around 12 years.

I lift weights regularly and work abs 2-3 days a week.  I enjoy the beach, like to sing, and love to run!!!

Quit smoking about 4 years ago and couldn't run 1/4 way around a track when I began... started with elliptical and then got into running more seriously.  Cranked up the mileage and intensity when I began training for my first 1/2 marathon.  The rest is history.... or history in the making!?

Decided to push it today since I wasn't running long this weekend and I honestly felt like total crap after working several night shifts in a row, but what can I say? I am a glutton for punishment so... I punished myself.  The first mile I worked into my pace.  Averaged 7:50 per mile over 5 miles and then cooled down.  I felt like I had worked it, but didn't give it everything as I do have to live to run another day (mainly tomorrow) and besides... I wasn't getting a medal, so there.  Happy with it though and it was the fastest 5 miles that I have ever run!

8 miles in the morning at 9 min/mile average pace.  I was a little tired from yesterday's fast run but did quite well this morning considering.

6 miles in the evening at 9:30 min/mile average pace.  Although it was slower than this morning's run, I actually felt pretty good!

OK!  The past two days totally caught up with me.  This was really tough today.  Ran at 9:36 average pace with my friend Mary and I struggled for 3/4 of this run to complete it but it is done.

Very tough and hilly 18 miler with the running crew inland by College and Tamarack Roads. Killer!  Ellie and I were the only 2 that were running this far today and the last 3-4 miles ate us both up.  I swear, we ran several hills that were probably at least 3/4 of a mile long on this run.  Glad it's over and I am totally whipped.

2 mile warm up then 1x800 at 7:30 pace with 200 meter recovery then 3 x 800 at 7:08 pace each with 200 meter recoveries, then cool down.  I was vtired today so opted for 800's instead of my usual mile repeats.

So the above results are for the local 5K for residents but the overall 5k results were 480th place with 15th place in my division.  I was really disappointed with this race today because I really thought that I was in 23 minute or possibly just under that shape.  I do have to realize though, that I am training for a marathon currently and that does slow you down a bit when you are running high mileage.  I had also just finished 3 night shifts in a row at work and had minimal rest before the race.  Such terrible sleeping habits prior to race day!  It's ok though.  I did beat my husband and that was on my to do list today.  My oldest son Kyle cranked it in 22:31. So proud of him!!!  The first mile, I was in the high 6's but totally started to poop out on mile 2.  I was having such a hard time breathing because it was so cold!  I then started with the stomach cramps which reduced me to a slogger. Sucks to have this problem but I have never beaten my husband ever in a race, and today I did, so there!  ;-)

14 miles along the coast....essentially a fartlek. I am getting into the meat and potatoes of my marathon training now which means long runs and faster running on tired legs!

Another challenging run... fartlek/interval work.  It is my last training month before my marathon. Time to step it up and include some faster paces on these longer runs!!
